I love Chuck E Cheese! Well, I don't really love the mouse Chuck E Cheese. And the place is fun but what I really love is the effect this place has on my kids. It is magical.
We rarely go there. It is reserved for "special" occasions only. Such as when DS stopped sucking his thumb. Or as in the newest occasion...successful potty training! WooHoo!
We had told the kids months ago the next time we would go to Chuck E Cheese would be when little girl was potty trained. Seed planted. She went months with this knowledge doing nothing; she wasn't ready. Then she started getting interested; read more here and here. Around this time she had no desire to go #2 in the potty. As a result her interst in potty training overall took a backseat. She went about 6 weeks simply wearing diapers, asking for underwear on some occasions.
Then a week ago my DS asked when we would be going to Chuck E Cheese again. I told him when DD was potty trained. We were driving down the road. The two of them in their car seats in the back. This is the conversation that followed:
DS: Hey DD do you want to go to Chuck E Cheese?
DD Yes
DS Then you need to go potty on the toilet, OK?
DD OK
DS Mom does she need to poop on the potty too?
ME Yes
DS You have to go pee and poop on the toilet, OK DD?
DD OK
DS You can do it. Then we will get to go to Chuck E Cheese.
DD OK (Giggles)
End of conversation.
The next day she decided to do big girl underwear. She asked the Holy Spirit to help her go potty. Too sweet. Day one. Dry! Day two. Dry. Still no #2, withholding. I was tempted to put a diaper on her. I felt like that would not be the solution. Day 3 Dry and in the evening break through. She began to go in her swim suit when we noticed and quickly ushered her into the bathroom. She finished in the toilet and learned...this is no big deal...easy. She is now completely potty trained. WooHoo.
So last night we went to Chuck E Cheese to celebrate. We had fun playing games. Eating pizza. Getting pictures taken. Celebrating her accomplishment.
So now I am thinking...maybe the next time we go will be when DS can read. Hmmm. Yes that sounds good.

I haven't been in Chuck E Cheese with Snuggle Bug yet. I like your idea of saving it for "special" occasions and using it as an incentive.
