I had heard that you could not life tax returns until February this year. NOT TRUE!
I just finished filing and they were accepted for e-file-TODAY!
Hip hip hooray!

It's not a rumor, it just lacks clarification. The delay only affects those who are e-filing certain forms. The IRS made some changes and needs time to update their systems.

There is a list of the forms affected in this article:
http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=177065,00.html

Or if you're not like me and have no interest reading through IRS notices:

The Feb. 11 delay caused by the AMT patch will affect any taxpayer using any of these five forms:

Form 8863, Education Credits
Form 5695, Residential Energy Credits
Form 1040A Schedule 2, Child and Dependent Care Expenses for Form 1040A Filers.
Form 8396, Mortgage Interest Credit.
Form 8859, District of Columbia First-Time Homebuyer Credit.

Electronic returns involving those five forms will not be accepted until systems are updated in February. Similarly, paper filers should wait to file as well. All other e-file and paper returns will be accepted starting in January.

I am jealous - I wish we had all our paperwork mailed to us so we could do the same.
