Exit Public Schools

http://www.hslda.org/docs/news/20060502.asp

Interesting article, Southern Baptist consider resolution that will encourage an exit stradegy from public schools. Go check it out. Quick read.

"Christian parents have a choice to make. They can continue to risk the public system or take responsibility for the education of their own children and bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord." -Taken from the above article.
Addition- I came across this blog yesterday and this is a great post. http://thecherrypitt.blogspot.com/2006/05/why-our-kids-are-in-public-school-part.html
My stand is that each family needs to make their own choices regarding the schooling of their kids. For some it will be public or private, others it will be homeschool. It is a choice that need to make after much prayer and guidance from the Holy Spirit. I know that for us, for this season, we are to homeschool. I have known that for long before they were born. I also feel that there will come a time that they will indeed be in public schools. That is not my plan. If I had it my way they would be homeschooled throughout. In March God showed me that there will come a time that he will call them into the schools to be a witness for Him. Sent out into the mission field. It is my responsiblity to train them for that. I am thankful that he gave me some notice on that one.
In all things teach your kids they way of the Lord. Be it Public, Private or Home.

i have to say i'm southern baptist, but i'm not sure i agree with all of us taking our kids out of public school. i think public, private, christian and homeschool is all good. if we remove all the christian children from the schools, who will witness to the children? we all have our own convictions. my husband and i don't know what we're doing yet. (we have lots of time) i went to public school, he went to a small christian school.

Mild rant here:

"[The debate over Christian education continues] as more church leaders recognize that public schooling is no longer serving the goals of the church."

"[Many current homeschoolers have] concluded that public school is not an acceptable alternative for the provision of a Christian education."

Do we really expect public schools to serve the goals of the church? It just seems a bit absurd to expect the public school system to offer a Christian education.

I disagree with this statement:
"They can continue to risk the public system or take responsibility for the education of their own children and bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord"

It doesn't have to be either/or. No matter what type of school your kids go to - Christian, Public, Home - you can take responsibility for your kids' education and raise them up to know the Lord. Most of the problems with public school comes when parents leave everything up to the teachers.

There is so much fear surrounding this whole issue. I understand that public school may not be for everyone, but that doesn't mean it's all bad. Just stay involved with your children's lives. Let your relationship with Christ be evident to them. They'll be fine.

This is why I love the blogging world. On our own blog, we can state our opinions and some will agree and some will not. I admire you Sarah. When I look at homeschooling, I get scared. I think there is no way I could EVER do it. But, I want what's best fro my babies. Two more years, I will have to make that choice. I pray I make the right one. Stick with it Sarah, I love your spirit. Keep standing up for what you believe in. All Christians need to do this in our own walks. If we stand up for Jesus, maybe someone will be saved. If you stand up for homeschooling, maybe a mom's life will be changed and a child's future preserved.
