For one week, our family successfully unplugged the TV. Strike that rewind. The kids and I successfully unplugged the TV. As Dad was out of town on business for the sermon last week, he watched TV. And when he came home he did sneak a couple hours of viewing in while we were sleeping. Oh well.
If it were not for my husband I would totally ditch the tube. We had a fabulous week. The kids were active and imaginative. They played outside for hours. We explored. Saw some cool wildlife. Visited newborn kittens. We went places we have been wanting to go. And we read lots of books.
More on our adventures throughout the week.

We just recently moved our TV downstairs and I love not having it around. It has to be intentional because it is not right in the living room. Now the TV is maybe viewed 30 minutes a day (in the evening the kids watch a video we rent from church). I can't even remember the last time I watched anything on TV...and I don't miss it one bit.
You are right on - there is so much more time for imaginative play, spending time reading and other fun activities that the TV just can't offer.
Unluckily, I seriously just enjoy watching television. Don't get me wrong, I don't watch it all day but i just really enjoy it. I thought I could ditch it when we moved but then when I realized you couldn't get a signal I thought I would ditch it. Nope. We went for satellite instead. Which has ONLY increased our watching b/c we have the DVR and can record it. So basically I don't watch any extra channels. But to obtain a tv signal in my area you have to have satellite or cable...
...we probably should ditched it...
Good for you!!! I'm the tv person lately. My daughter has been so into reading and I keep avoiding my studies with the tv. I'm so impressed with all of you!!
