This is a true story...I was there.
In the evening at the crusades there is an offering. Freewill, no one is pressuring you to give. At the crusade there was a family. Mom, dad, grandma, aunts, uncles, kids and cousins. Eli was fourteen. Dragged there by his parents. He half heartedly attended the first day. 9 hours sitting, listening...did I mention he's 14. Friday evening comes and along with it the offering. Somewhere in that time God touched his heart and he had the desire to give. His mom shared later that a year ago she felt the family was to come to this crusade. In order to save the money needed to attend they cut back some things in the home. One of those things was allowance. She said her kids were the only kids she knew that did not get an allowance. So here is Eli with the desire to give but he has no money. That is where this kid went from the ordinary to the exceptional. For his thirteenth birthday his parents had given him a gold necklace. It was the first thing of value he had ever owned. It was his pride. He loved it, he wore it everwhere. Imagine a teenager. It was a part of his identity. Having nothing else to give he leaned over and asked his mom if it would be ok if he gave his necklace. She told him that was his choice, it was his necklace. So that's what he did. He stepped forward to the basket and dropped it in. Just like the widows mite, it did not go unnoticed. The next night just before the offering they called him up and asked what he had given the night before. (This is not normal practice to call people out but God had a plan and it was good.) Eli came forward shrugged his shoulders and said "gave my gold necklace," that's it like it was no big deal. There was more to the story which mom came forward to share. It was a big deal, a tear streaming down his cheek revealed that. He was moved by God and he responded. He gave all that he had. A teenager, gave all that he had. He went back to his seat, if it ended here it would just be a cool story but what happened next made it amazing. A little old lady in the back of the room walked to the front and handed the leaders of the crusade a check. She whispered something to them and walked back to her seat. They were a little taken back and needed to clarify. "If I understand you correctly you want us to take this check in place of the necklace and return the necklace to Eli...is that correct?" Yes that was her wishes. The check was substantial, more than enough to cover the cost of the necklace. They called Eli back forward retrieved the necklace and began to place it around his neck. Something in that room broke. A heart to give, a realization that we were all being taught by a young man. Give out of your heart and God sees, he blesses beyond comprehension. People began to come forward and give him money. The prophets were so touched they began to give to him. The offering underway people kept coming. Money for the prophecy club was for the basket, money for Eli was to be put in the boys hands. Tens, twenties, fives and ones. The wad grew. As he went back to his seat the man leading the offering said he suspected there was $500-600 there. Eli sat down and began to sort it out. He was sitting behind me and I watched as he put it in order and counted. After the offering was a dance and the basket left out until the end of the dance. With the money in order he came forward again and dropped something in the basket. I assumed that's nice he is tithing off that and giving his 10%. Wrong. At the close of the dance, the prophet looked at him and said "You gave more than 10%, was it 25?" His reply blew me away, "NO it was 50%!" He did not have to give a penny of it back, but he did. Does this kid get it or what? I believe he will grow up to do GREAT things for the kingdom, a financer for the kingdom. I hope I am around to see it be so.
Is there something God has asked you to give over to him? Are you going to do it?
In obedience there is blessing, far beyond our comprehension!

Coming Full Circle
Shortly after I accepted Christ God put me through discipleship 101. I was a senior in high school. God was undeniable, he had pulled me out of the pits and revealed himself mightily. A campus life leader went on a retreat, while there he had a vision from the Lord. After he returned back he assembled 12 youth, myself included. He sat us down and begin to share the vision the Lord had showed to him. In a simple sentence it boiled down to this; A christian nightclub for young adults. A place to worship. A time of teaching. Not just a vision, a command to go forth.
Starting out it was just the 12 of us. It was simply a bible study. We met together , prayed and dug into the Word. Not long after we began meeting together the Lord provided a place to gather. I remember the first time we saw it. Anticipation. It exceeded my expectations. It was a small space probably around 1000sq ft. It had a foos ball table and a bar. There were two rooms. The smaller room had a couch and some chairs. The larger room had a bar the length of the wall. A popcorn machine. And open floor space. I was sold. We continued on in bible study meeting in the new space. We prayed and we prayed. Then it happened; the birth of Visions. Ministry was happening, lives were changing, people were being saved. We switched from a bible study format to a nightclub atmosphere. We had worship and a message. You could play foosball or dance. Talk with friends. It was the ultimate hang out for teens, a safe place to bring your friends. An alternative to the things of the world. It was not long until we were bursting at the seams. Over 100 kids on a Friday night. I look back fondly at those memories. I was young but I knew I was exactly were I needed to be. I met my husband at that place. The time came that we needed something more...more space. Again provided. Thankfully the move was not far, it was next door to an abandoned nightclub. It was a huge open space with a private room in the back corner. There was an established bar counter and a small office. Perfect!
Ministry was in full swing. I was in close fellowship with God. I prayed consistently and for great lengths. I could not deny the work God was doing and I was continually in awe of how he worked. He provided and provided...he is good like that. At that time I literally prayed in my closet. I miss that closet. Good memories there. Like that time I knew I was to marry DH (I will share that at a later date.) Good times, good times.
A time came when I married and began to step back more from the weekly participation in Visions. The kids came. And I rarely made it up. Visions went through some ups and downs. A time of dryness. Times of great fruit. Some awesome people were raised up. Talents developed. More discipleship.
Last Friday the Lord spoke to me and showed me it was time to go back. It was not just for a visit, he is calling me back to minister. I do not know exactly what this looks like. I do know God's hand is in it. I know it will be good. I went last night. So much is the same, so much has changed. New faces. Some old faces. There was a time when I knew everyone by name. I knew if you were new the moment you walked in. That wasn't so last night. I knew 10 people. Then I learned the names of about 20. The worship began and I knew I was home. I did not know any of the songs at first. It did not matter to me. It was worship. The talk began and it took me a little off guard. The first few minutes were about me. It was a reminiscing of what used to be. A taste of the old days. The teaching a reminder of what the heart was "back in the day." Intimate time with God, sincere time in prayer. It was God has been speaking to me all week anyway. Getting back to the prayer closet. Or if you like a prayer walk. Whatever it looks like...commited prayer.
So it is coming full circle. Back to the ministry were life happened for me. It's exciting! What is it the Lord will do? Whatever it may be it will be good...and amazing.

Lessons From the Park
Sweet little girl is 2 1/2. She loves her mom and loves to be near me. For a couple of months she has been going through some seperation anxiety. It has greatly improved the last 2 weeks but it is still there. What does this have to do with the park?
First trip to the bathroom I needed to go to the car for a cup. I watched her as she trampled across the field. Totally focused on her goal. She paid no attention to me or the fact that I was headed in a different direction. I let her go. I continued to the car, watching her the whole time. She ran on, never looked back. God spoke to me: So it is when you go on your own way. I am watching over you. Making sure you are safe. Ready to run to you if you call for me.
On another trip to the bathroom with DS I left DD with my friend. Munching on her cheese she was fine until I was completely out of sight. Then she freaked. I could hear the screaming and crying before I could see her. I paused and waited for her to get to me, picked her up and comforted her. With me she calmed. God spoke to me: I am your comfort. Sometimes I stand by and wait for you to come to me. Then I sweep you up in my arms and hold you close.
On the playground there is a wobbly bridge. It goes down steep, shakes when you cross. Little girl and I were walking together when I began across the bridge. She froze. "Help me mommy" Gently I coaxed her, "you can do it sweet, take a step." DD- "take my hand mommy." I came to her and took her hand, she stepped out onto the bridge and walked the path. It wobbled she kept going. God spoke to me: So it is with you, when you come to something new don't be afraid. I am gently guiding you. When you are scared to take the first steps on your own, I will take your hand and lead you down the path. For I am with you.
Praise God! He watches over me. He is my comfort and holds me in His arms. He takes my hand and leads me down the path. I love my Daddy! Oh Abba Father!

Giving Heart
Little did I know that today when I accepted an invitation to join a friend at the park all the lessons I would learn. Let me share with you. As we got ready to leave my son asked for his SAVE envelope. This is where he places all the money he is saving. After receiving a chunk of change for his birthday he purchased a hockey stick and some handcuffs; that's all he wanted. He put the remainder in the envelope. Today he asks for it and I give it to him. I have made no mention to him of what he wanted to do with the money. I have not suggested purchases nor have I said to save it. It is his money and I have trusted him to do what he needs with it. I know this is not normal to do with a just 5 but that's what we do. So he gets his envelope and takes some money out of it. I think he is just taking some along for the trip to the store. WRONG. He tells me "I have a twenty and a one in my pocket." My reply "OK are you taking it with you to the store?" DS-"NO, I am going to give it to Kaitlyn and Kyla." ME-"Your going to give them $21 of your dollars?" DS-"Yes!" ME-"OK, if that's what you want to do. Is that what you want to do? DS-"Yes." I am curious so I ask "Why are you giving them money? DS- "Because I want to. Do they get money?" I shrugged my shoulder and said "I don't know, I don't think so." He said "I am going to give them the money $20 for Kaitlyn and $1 for Kyla." I was perplexed but didn't say much about that. Although I did say maybe they should share it. Then it came out that he felt God had told him to. The Holy Spirit is speaking to my five year old...and he is listening. Awesome!
So we go to the park we meet our friends. I make a few trips to the bathroom with kiddos. We share lunch. The kids play. The moms talk. Then we all go swing. I ask him if he is still going to give his gift. He jumped off his swing in excitement and tells Kyla stop swinging (Kaitlin was at school.) She looks at him not wanting to stop swinging. I smiled and told her he* had a gift for her. Her eyes lit up and she slowed down the swing so she could get off. DS went digging in his pocket and brought out the money. He placed it in her hands and said "This is for you and Kaitlin; 20 for Kaitlin and 1 for you." Kyla was so happy she was holding money and it was for her. Their mom looked at me and said "did he just give her money." "Yup $21." "You mean my daughter is holding on to $21." "Yes." "Wow, why?" "He just wanted to give it to them." I filled her in on some details and told her I wasn't sure why he was insistent on who got what but added maybe Kaitlin is believing for $20, I don't know but do with it what you need to do. I do know that I learned a thing about my boy. He loves Jesus and wants to follow him. That he hears from God and desires to obey. That he has a giving heart. He gave with JOY, he was overflowing, just mentioning it he bubbles up and smiles. I have prayed that my kids would have giving hearts, that they not hold on tightly to possesions in this world; seeing it in action blows me away.
When dad came home from work he shared it with him...no regrets, still full of joy. DH asked him what he was saving his money for and he told him "a pool for the back yard." Sowing seeds like he did today I do believe God will bless him. Perhaps with the desires of his heart ...that pool. When asked how long it would take him to save for the pool he said "684 years." and he is willing to wait.
There was more I learned that I will share later...
And don't let me forget to share my story about Eli from this weekend.

Day of the Hatch
Today is the day of the hatch for the falcons. My dad called a few minutes ago and said she had something in her mouth. I did get to see something and it was then in her talons. She may have been eating, although she normally does not eat in the nest box. It may have been a baby...hard to say yet. She is definately acting different. Today is the day predicted and her behavior suggests...something is happening. http://www.ohiodnr.com/wildlife/falcons/default.htm
Update 10:20am:
I feel like a momma bird bursting with excitement.
Do you see that? Look at the egg then scan to the right. There under Victory is a baby. Two black eyes and a tiny beak. So exciting.
Update 4:09pm:
I have been mistaken. That is not a baby. At 4:00 Victory came of the eggs to reveal that four are still intact. No baby falcon. I did see in the eight minutes she was off the lower right egg move. SIGH. Soon...

Update: 4/28 Today one hatched here is the first good look I had at the baby. Another one she has been paying close attention to..so I would not be suprised if we get a look at another soon.

Pondering In the Middle of the Night
It is nearing 1am, I am NOT normally up at 1 am. I am much more a morning person than a night owl. Yet here I am the house is asleep and I am up. Odd I know. I've been thinking...I have some awesome friends. Tonight was the celebration wrap-up for the Beth Moore study Living Beyond Yourself. Those ladies are so dear to me. They can make me laugh, they have seen me cry. We experienced some incredible teaching and life change the last couple of months. One was so sweet she gave me roses. 21 peach roses in a white metal vase. Beautiful. I love that while we are a large church these ladies have made they effort to do life together. To be real and to grow. I love each of you.
Then there is a marking of a new chapter. The John study I mentioned yesterday (technically two days ago) has opened a door for new friendships. I have a sense as I read the blogs of the other women that I have known them all my life. Or that I could easily start a relationship with them. Have them over for dinner. Play at the park. Meet them at a coffee shop. Sure they live all over the United States (mostly Texas but also Arkansas and Oklahoma) but I can picture sitting down and sharing life with them. I love getting to know their unique personalities. Reading the stories they share. It shows me that while we are each unique, we are very much the same. We all love our husbands, our kids, the Lord. We want to do what's right.
I think that's why I am up so late tonight. After commenting on the study I went to get to know some of the ladies better. Reading blogs.
Be back to blogging tomorrow. Good night. I am off to bed. Me sleepy!

John Study
I am excited about a new oppurtunity I have. I wanted to extend it on to you. A blogging bible study. Join others online as we read the book of John together and share our thoughts, response and insight into what we are reading. Simply read one chapter a day and comment on what you read or simply that you DID read. I am excited, I hope you will join.

Amanda is the hostess. As I have read through some of her blog I am impressed by her heart and her obedience to do this study.
Go check it out. It began yesterday so to be on track with everyone else read chapters one and two by the end of the day. Or start a day behind I suppose that would not hurt.

Consecration
The Lord blessed me tonight with a teaching on dedicating my body, his temple, to Him. Hannakah means dedication and tonight I had an oppurtunity to do so. This weekend I will be taking part in a crusade, I am excited to see God move. As preperation for those three days of the crusade I will be setting apart tomorrow as a time of consecration. A deliberate stepping back from the world and a renewed focus on Him. I know my God is big, bigger than I can even imagine. I know He has big things planned for me and the others in attendance. I know He has called me to set this day before Him and seek His face in preperation. This means I will be turning off the computer, the phone and TV. Please pray for me this weekend, that I receive all that He has for me; with an open heart and mind. That He heal and restore, encourage and affirm. That I would have direction for the coming days.
Morning Conversation

Hairball Bowling
This made me laugh. Hairball Bowling. The cat is moving quickly click when the cat is in position. My score was 145, better than my true bowling scores where I hope for 100. Have fun.
Thanks Raychel.
Thanks Raychel.
Happy 5th Birthday
Dear Son,
This last year you have grown and accomplished SO MUCH!
You learned to swim both forward and backward the full length of the big pool. You learned to ride your bike with no training wheels. We enjoyed many bike rides with the tag-along. Thanks for the rides to Saturday morning breakfast, you helped us make it over the hills. This last year you learned to shimmy up trees, ropes and poles; definately not afraid of heights. You can swing a bat and hit the ball. You can catch a ball. Our record is 36 for throwing back and forth with each other without dropping it. You learned to swing on your own and jump off. You love to do obstacle courses on the swing set. You can make it all the way across the monkey bars.
This year you grew up. You no longer suck your thumb, you gave it up on your own. You accepted Christ as your Savior. You memorized many scriptures. I noticed that you are determined. That if you set your mind to learning or doing something you WILL acheive it. You do not give up easily. Your a great big brother, looking out for your sister; most of the time. You got your dog and take good care of it. You are learning responsibilty. This year you saved $40 of your allowance to buy your robot. You showed me that you are willing to work and wait for something you really want.
This fall you started preschool at home. You have a desire to learn. You can identify all your letters and numbers. Count clearly to 30. Will count to 100 with minor mistakes. You can count to 100 by tens. You like abstract things like pattern blocks and puzzles. You can do a 100 piece puzzle. You like to draw but not color. You love to spell out words. You can write most of your letters from memory, or copy anything you see. You can play war, go fish, boggle jr, candyland and chutes and ladders. You win... a lot...and I don't just let you win. Your hand eye cordination on the computer amazes me. You are better at many computer games than some adults. You can tell time to the hour and say the date.
You are an amazing kid! For all that you do and for all that you are! Thanks for being you. God is raising you up in such a way that you bring Glory to Him. I love you very much!
Mom

About Boys
I came across this article today and found it fascinating. If you have kids in school go read it.
http://www.nj.com/living/times/index.ssf?/base/living-0/114526130167610.xml&coll=5
Today at my six month dental cleaning the hygentist and I had a great discussion. We were talking about kids with focus issues and how things are dealt with in the school. Some teachers are great at seeing the kids needs and meeting them. Others have no desire to accomadate these children at all. Often these kids (most often boys but not excluded to only boys) will act out in boredom and frustration. They get labeled or looked down upon. It frustrates me. Boys need to be boys. Kids need recess and play time. Kindergarteners need quiet rest time; remember the mats back in the day. You didn't have to sleep although many did. My dad recently said to me "Quiet time was most of the school day for me in kindergarten. There was no grade just a report of plays well with others." Now we expect our 5 year olds to attend a full day of school and have NO nap(quiet) time.
A couple of weeks ago I met a friend for lunch when trying to decide between going to the zoo or the park her preschooler said "the park! I need to move my body we just sat at our desks all day and worked, worked, worked."
How do we find the balance of work and play in the classroom? How do kids with focus issues get the help they need? Do you think gender schools are an answer? Is "No Child Left Behind" putting so much pressure on these kids to perform, that basic needs are being overlooked?
What do you think?

Rite of Passage
Tonight at the YMCA DS had a rite of passage. He is not tall enough to go on the water slide yet he is an excellent swimmer for his age. He rode it last fall and loved it. When we went tonight he wanted to go again. He asked the attending lifeguard if he could go on it. She said he would have to take a swim test then asked me if he could swim the length on the pool. Which he can. So she let him go. She watched him go down twice then called him over. She told him good job you passed and now you get your name on the list. Woohoo. That means whenever the waterslide is running DS can go on it. They will take one look at him and think he is too little. Then DS will politely tell them that he passed his swim test and his name is on the list. Balla Boom Balla Bing!

Why I Love My Church
I am listening to a CD our church released this weekend. It is so beautiful. Songs of praise and sincere worship. Songs that usher me into the presence of the God. Renewing my mind as I sing them throughout the day, even when the CD is not playing. The thing that really amazes me is that 9 of the 11 songs were written by people in our congregation. This excites me. I love when talents are used to glorify God.
Other reasons I love my church:
A sensitivity to the Spirit
Desire to follow the Word
Equipping believers- Amazing teaching is available to any who desire to grow
Small groups- As a large church last I heard 80% of regular attenders were involved in a small group. Small community is so important for growth and accountabilty
Heart for Missions- Local and across the world
Heart for the youth- I feel kids have a voice. They are a priority!
Servant's heart- Nearly everyone contributes in some way to the function of the church.
Truth spoken- Sensitive issues are not avoided but handled with sensitivity
Amazing Staff!! I am thankful for a senior pastor who leads with integrity. I truly believe they work together with the co-operation of the Holy Spirit. As Pastor Brad said on Sunday "no worship wars here." That is refreshing.
I feel so blessed to be a part of this church!

Self Examination
I mentioned in the last post a concept of neglect and obsession. How each extreme is unhealthy. What does this look like? Lets examine ourselves together, shall we. Ask yourself these tough questions. I pray that you will be honest with yourself and that your eyes will be opened to where it is that you are needing balance today.
Do you exercise with fevor, recording every step? Do you feel guilt if you miss a workout? Or do you sit on the couch most of the day? Giving little care to your body? Are you moving about?
Do you obsess about food? Counting every calorie, analyzing every morsel that enters your mouth. Not eating. Eating too much. Gourging, binging with no restraint. Eating all the wrong foods.
What about your time? Are you giving an unbalanced amount of time to your tv, your computer, your work? Are things being neglected? Do you micromanage every minute of your day; ruled by your to-do list? Do you have no plan for your day and let it slip away not accomplishing anything productive?
What about your thought life? Do you dwell in worry and fear? Do you over analyze everything around you? Do you have any tangible, intellectual thoughts; at all?
Are you always moving; busy? Are you lazy?
Family. Do you spend every waking moment meeting every need your family has? Do you escape and let others care for your family? Is your time with your kids filled with distraction?
Your possessions. Are you always needing the latest and greatest? Do you have a lot of stuff? What do you do to obtain it? Are you envious? Are you ever satisfied? Or do you have a poverty mindset? Do you believe that you will never have anything nice? Do you dwell in self-pity? Are you dependant on others to meet basic needs?
Are you a hard worker? Do you over-work? Do you work at all? Do you expect others to provide or do it for you?
Your home. Do you have the cleanest house you know? Do you have rooms of your house no one can use because they are to be kept in perfect order? Do you clean and clean and clean some more? Do you have the messiest house you know? Is nothing in order? Is it promoting sickness? Do you ever clean? Are thing breaking down from neglect?
A little personal here. Your sex life. Is it consuming you? Are you seeking ungodly means to be fulfilled? Are you withholding from your partner?
Not married? Are your thoughts pure? Your actions?
If there are questions not asked and yet God is bringing them to mind take note.
Can you see how things can be when we give in to obsession? Neglect? Is God speaking to you on areas in your life where you need to find a healthy balance? I am praying you will be obedient.
Be blessed my friends.
Philippians 4:5 (King James Version)
5Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
1 Corinthians 10:31 (New International Version)
31So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
Note: Accountabily can be a key to your success in overcoming these things. Pray for someone to help you through the process of finding balance.

Dirt Don't Hurt
I have long believed that dirt indeed does NOT hurt! On the contrary I believe that dirt is good for you. I love dirty hands (the kind that have been out digging.) I am ok with dirty clothes. Have I mentioned I don't keep the cleanest house? My kids HAVE eaten food of the floor. GASP...did you hear it? Not only am I ok with it; I think it is good. Yes I do. I believe it helps them build their immunities. That being exposed to things is not their death. That it helps their systems develop and promotes health. So imagine how excited I get about articles like this one. http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/conditions/04/05/cohen.allergies/
Go read it!
So what do you think?
Where are you? Do you obsess over cleanliness? Are you the other extreme, caring nothing about cleanliness? Tonight's lesson was increbible!! Beth Moore taked about obsession and neglect; neither extreme is healthy. You need to have balance and moderation. A proper respect. In regards to the above subject what is a good balance? I believe in hand washing, cleaning your home, and changing your underwear. That is a good balance for me.
Who wants to go play in the dirt?

Revelation
I have had a revelation since the last post on self-control. I mentioned that areas of weakness for me are housework, computer time and food. My revelation is this: they are intertwined. When I abuse my time on the computer it DOES affect other areas of my life, perhaps all areas of my life. I realized that over the last couple of months I have been "escaping" so to speak to the computer. Sometimes I escape so I don't have to deal with whining. Sometimes I crave adult intellect. Other times I want to be validated that I am not alone. In doing so I often neglect the very things I am home to care for. My children, the housework, cooking healthy, ect. I realized that the kids would take advantage of my distraction and get into things they should not be eating or doing. Their diets were getting out of whack as they had spent much of the day snacking on junk. Not good. Diets of junk affect behavior. Not good. Time on the computer means less time keeping things in order. Messy house, not good.
So what am I going to do about it?
Do I give up the computer altogether? No I don't believe that I do. I know God is doing awesome things and that this blog is part of His plan. I believe I need to strike a balance. Being aware of my time spent. More importantly my MOTIVE behind the time spent. Am I escaping? Or I am being obedient? Is it frivilous or bearing fruit? My hope is that I have time when the kids are sleeping or occupied in a healthy way. I see how God is working in me. It is work, yet I am excited about it. For I know it is necessary and good.
1 Corinthians 6:12
12"Everything is permissible for me"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"—but I will not be mastered by anything.

What You Doing?
Little girl likes to shadow her daddy around. Tonight he was scrounging around for change to go up to the store. He tossed my jeans aside and heard some jingling. DD asked "What you doing? Looking for change?" Daddy gave her a smirk as he slipped his hand into the jeans. Then she added in a high pitch accusing voice "In MOMMIES pocket?"
Busted! By a two year old...I love it. And thanks sweety for looking out.

Life Takes Time
After a battle with little girl my son looked at me and said "Life takes time, right mom." His manner was gentle, his face sincere. I replied "Yes it does. That was a wise thing to say. Where did you hear that from?" His reply, he pointed to the sky. "Did the Holy Spirit speak that to you?" A sweet smile and a nod.
Life does take time. There are things that I want to happen RIGHT NOW. I want to have everything in order. I want to get through this tough stuff of learning to have self-control. Balancing my day. I want my kids to be..well perfect...right now. Yet he who has begun a good work in each of us is faithful to complete it. In his time.
Philippians 1:6
6being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Number Puzzles

We have these puzzles seen above. One piece is the number. The next is a picture representing the number. The last piece is the number word. DS has no problem putting together the first two pieces. If I am right there when he is putting them together I will spell the word as he finds it. Today I had the idea to give him the word flashcards. On one side is the number and picture. The other side has the word. It worked great. He matched the word then flipped it over to see what number the word belonged to.

Snacks
LURKERS EMERGE!!
I need help!
Over the last couple of months/years we have resorted heavily to prepackaged crackers and snacks. Look at my pile of post consumer cardboard and you will now what I mean. Yesterday when I went to watch my friends kids for a few hours I was amazed at how organized her schedule was. The dad had prepared all the snacks for the day in advance. Cheerios and raisins in baggies. So it got me thinking...things need to be revised in the snack and meals department. This morning I have made some changes. I locked up the pantry. Yes I really did. I put the key on my hip and call myself guardian of the key. One stern reprimand let the little people know I meant business. For snack we had little cups of trail mix with honey nut O's.
So lurkers and friends, please let me know what you do for snacks. What are your kids favorite's? How do you prepare and/or package them? Educate me PLEASE!

Balance
In this season I sense a coming to order. Balance. Please pray that I would be obedient to the Holy Spirit.
Heavenly Father I come before you Lord. I sense you Spirit working within. I pray that you would help me to be obedient to that which you are calling me to. Lord, the work is not always glorious. Give me a desire to meet the needs of my family and home. Help me in finding balance each day. Lord I give to you our schooling, our play, the housework, computer and tv time, our eating, our down time, discipline, my coming in and my going out. Lord give me your wisdom and understanding in these things, Help me to make wise choices as I lead my kids through these early years. Fill me with your Holy Spirit, guide and direct. Let good fruit be produced and enjoyed. Thank you for this season in my life. Thank you for refining. All glory be unto you. In Jesus name. Amen

Self Control
This week in Living Beyond Yourself we are finishing up the last fruit of the spirit. Self Control. Self control...hmm. Overall, I view myself as one who exhibits self control. Overall. Yet under the surface there brews the lack of self control. My weaknesses? House cleaning, balance of computer time and food. The last one is a new revelation. I have always had a great metabolism. I never put much thought toward food. If I want it, I eat it. Lately I am realizing that I don't need 4 cupcakes. Nor 10 chocolate eclaires. Yet there are days that I do. If I like it, I will eat it. I grew up with the expectation to "clean my plate." This mentality has not helped me. At restaurants I truly feel that I NEED to finish all my food. I struggle with putting the fork down if there is anything left on the plate. With American portions in restaurants it is unrealistic to expect yourself or your kids to finish all their food. Yet I do expect myself to eat it all. I heard once to ask for a to go box at the beginning of the meal. In doing so you can place half the meal in the box; saving it for later. This helps limit the portion to a more realistic meal. Do I do it? I have once or twice and it did help. Why don't I do it more often? I think I receive the meal thinking I will eat until I am full then stop. I get 3/4 through the plate, realize I am full then think there is ONLY a little bit left, just finish it. So I do.
I am excited about this week's lesson. I pray it will shed some light on overcoming these struggles. The first step is realizing what is an issue. The second step is sharing it with another. (I guess I just shared with a whole lot of others.) Accept the accountabilty. Then begin the work and allow God to teach and guide me in these areas. Give it to God and give it to him again. I shall overcome.
2 verses I will be memorizing as a result of this study:
Proverbs 25:28 Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.
Isaiah 58:12 Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls; Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.

This is a video of DS age 4 swimming the length of the hotel pool.
Update: On a learning curve here. It appears that to share on a website the video needs to be listed as public. I had the video listed as private which excluded you the viewers from viewing. So now it should work for you. Please try again.

Trying Something New
So today at naptime (ha) my children WOULD NOT sleep. Yes I know I yelled that. Did you hear me they would not sleep. At all! I really like nap time. I need nap time. Selfish? Maybe. It has become increasingly difficult to get them to stay in their room for nap let alone sleep. Sure somedays they do. But lately it has been more and more of a struggle. DS nearing 5 probably doesn't really need one. DD almost 2 1/2 isn't ready to ditch it completely or is she? If the 5 year old is up she wants to be up. With that said I am going to try something new. Who knows if it will work. I need to do something though. The plan? Instead of nap time I am going to have quiet time. They will be required to stay in their OWN rooms. They will be asked to be quiet. I will recommend books, puzzles, quiet play, ect. They can stay up if they like, they can sleep. For the amount of time that I specify. The goal is that we each have some down time to ourselves.
Since today was for only a half hour and it failed miserably...we will see how long this lasts.

Peregrine Falcons

Perched on a ledge of the 41st floor of the Rhodes State Office Tower in Ohio is a Falcon nest. Currently occupying the nest are a pair of Peregrine Falcons and 4 eggs. Live feed camaras capture all activity during daylight hours; updating every 30 seconds. On the site there is a wealth of information about falcons. This has become one of our new favorite sites. We check it many times throughout the day. The eggs were laid in March and will hatch on approxiamately April 27th. Our family will be there to watch the action. Well actually we will be here in our house watching via live feeds. I love nature and I love learning!

Thanks Chalice for the link.
Note: The picture above is Victory shortly after she finished laying her eggs. This picture and others can be found on the above site.
Update: Both the female(Victory) and the male(Orville) will sit on the eggs to incubate them. I just learned that Victory has white between her eyes as Orville does not. So now you may be able to tell if it is mom or dad on egg watch.

Memory Verse: Joshua
Joshua 1:8-9
8Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
9Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do nor be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
This verse will be my memory verse for the week.

Automatic Clocks
We have two clocks in our home that our linked with satelite so they automatically change with time change. Awesome. I probably would have completely forgotten. The hallway said 6:30...sigh the kids woke up early. (For DD's result see comments on post WooHoo.) Then I round the corner to the living room 7:30. Oh yeah...time change. So how is it that they were suppose to sleep in until 8 or 9 new time and they both woke up early. Tell me...how is that?

So Funny
Tonight we came across an ad. We clicked on it. You type in the text and the computer speaks it for you. My husband was being hysterical in the things he was having it say. My little two year old was asking "why does that little boy know my name?" DH was very interactive with it and the kids kept asking "Do it again...do it again!" It was SO FUNNY.
Give it a try. Click link, then click on try now. Be creative, the more bizarre the funnier it is. Believe me it is funny.

WooHoo
Today my little girl went the whole day with dry underwear! WooHoo!
Now it is bed time and she insists on not wearing a diaper to bed. So who am I to stop her. We will never know if she can do it unless she tries. So here goes...
Note: I just bought a case of diapers (92 value pack) at the store today. Thinking we would be needing them at night for awhile. Oh pickles. Tomorrow morning will tell if they are or are not needed.

Scripture Memory Review

Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness , and all these things will be given to you as well.
Roman 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Phillipians 4:6-7 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Joshua 1:8-98Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.9Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do nor be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

What's Black and Red All Over?
If I would have had the presence of mind to take a picture, I would have. My son came to me and said, "come." No explanation; nothing else. DH said that can't be good if he won't tell you why. So I follow him to the basement...down the stairs. Then I see it. PAINT. EVERYWHERE! Black oozing paint puddled on the carpet. There stands my dear little girl hands bright red envision a surgeon. Red paint puddled on the table. Smeared on chairs.
I pick up DD holding her away from my body and shoot upstairs to wash her off. My neice following seems to have a little bit of black on her hands but nothing major. I wash hands. Take off clothes. Notice that neice had paint on the bottow of her jammies. Put them both into the bath tub. Paint had found it's way into their hair.
I go back down to try to clean up. I sop up as much black ooze as I can. Thank God I still had the steam cleaner I am borrowing. I get that set up and plug it in...nothing. I call DH onto the scene and he takes over with the steam cleaner. I finish getting little girls cleaned up. Washing their hair. With them safely out of the tub. I resume clean-up. I took a box of baby wipes; wiping down chairs and table. Many, many wipes later. It was done.
Now I need to find the key to the art supply cabinet...that baby is going to be LOCKED.

Sharks

While Jaws places fear about this fascinating creature, my son and I have begun to respect them. Last night before bed we read a book about sharks. We have read it many times. Then this morning there was an article on Snopes about the picture above. At first glance it looks like yet another fabricated shark photo. This one is real! Read the Snopes report here. For those intersted in learning more about Great White sharks click this article here from the Africa Geographic(Sept 2005)r. This picture is from that magazine and the research they are doing.
We fear the unknown...so don't be ignorant...learn about that which you are afraid.

Memorizing The Word
Memorizing the Word is important to me. Sometimes I am faithful in setting aside a scripture and really commiting it to heart. Other times it happens by accident where one sticks out and I meditate on it enough that it takes root and I know it. And still other times there is no verse that I am working on. So my desire is to be more dilegent and diliberate in my memorizing. To do so I need more accountability. The plan is simple. I set aside at least one if not more scriptures to be memorized. I will post it. Then I will follow through with working on it that week. Feel free to ask me how it is going, which verse I am working on or review past scriptures when you see me. This will help me grow. Soon you should find a Scripture Review on the sidebar. Please feel free to do this with me.

Lately I have thouroughly been enjoying my food. Not the oh this is good. More like oh my goodness this is rockin. Savoring every bite.
Saturday night with the ladies I had a gordita shell filled with beans, taco meat, lettuce, gaucamole, cheese, salsa and sour cream. Oh YES it was delish.
Sunday evening Orange chicken served over rice garnished with snow peas. So beautiful I should have taken a picture. And oh YES it was delish.
Tonight I made a reuben loaf. Bread dough filled with 1000 Island, corn beef, saurkrat and swiss cheese. Baked. And oh YES it was delish.
I am enjoying my food so much it can only mean one thiing. I am definately NOT pregnant.

Brackets and Other Things Basketball
This year the NCAA tournament has had some crazy twist and turns. Out of good fun DH and I each do a bracket for the tourney. Usually I win. This year I had hope in Michigan State...I am a fan. So when they went out in round one my brackets took a huge hit (so sad.) Then more upsets. And others brackets took a dive as well. Then go figure in the year of the upset no #1 seed made it to the final four. Who would have thunk it?
So both DH and my brackets are dead for this year. Dead; done. And I won. With a grand total of 36 whopping points.
My hubby and I enjoy the spirit of the tournament. Our favorite year was 2000. Michigan State was a number one seed. They were having a great showing. Then came a great oppurtunity. A friend got tickets to the final four. Two tickets. The tickets were actually a final four and final game package. And they were pricey. Our friend wanted one for the final game but needed to sell the others. He called me to see if my dear hubby would be interested. To which I knew he would be. But I didn't tell him about the offer. Instead I bought the ticket and told the friend it would be a total suprise. The morning of the game happened to be April Fools Day. I picked up a t-shirt from a corner vendor. Laid out the clothes then woke him up.
ME: Wake up
DH: Why?
ME: Your going to the game.
DH: Whatever I am going back to bed
ME: No really your going to the game...wake up...get dressed ...he's going to be here soon
DH: Whatever...haha...April Fools
ME: Get dressed...he's going to be here any minute
DH: Who is he?
ME: Mike
DH: Really??? (slight glimmer of hope)
DH: Whatever (still doesn't believe me)
ME: Call him...(throwing phone onto bed)
To which he called...and Mike confirmed the good news.
DH got dressed the whole time saying really, how, where did you get tickets, AM I REALLY GOING TO THE GAME??
He did indeed go to the game. The guys had a great time. Michigan State won and hubby was living it up. Exiting the game they found some tickets for sale from fans whose team had lost...ahhh so sad...no not really. He got a ticket and got to go to the big dance as well. History will tell you that in 2000 Michigan State won the NCAA tournament under the direction of our beloved Tom Izzo and led on the floor by Mateen Cleaves. I can still see Mateen doing his little hoppity dance on his injured ankle. And that SMILE.
That year I won the wife of the year award in the eyes of my man. Good times good times.

Self Potty Training
I am a laid back person in general. And it is so with my potty training technique. My boy was almost three when he decided he wanted to potty train. One night he had literally 20 questions. Why do people use the potty? Why do we flush? Where does our poop go? Why underwear? Why do babies wear diapers? ....you get the point. I answered each one the best I could. I even took him down to the basement and showed him the pipes that carried stuff out of the house and into the sewer system. He took it all in and was very interested. The next morning he woke up and declared that he was not wearing diapers anymore; only underwear. And it was literally that easy. He potty trained himself. I gently guided but it was his desicion. He had a couple accidents that first month but really it was only a couple. He was dry from day one at night and naptime. I remember that first night asking him about a diaper for bedtime and he said "NO only underwear" and he meant it. I figured why not try...and low and behold...dryness. That is my boy.
Now my girl. She is 29 months aka almost 2 1/2 years. I thought it would be awhile before she was really ready. But no. She woke up Tuesday requesting underwear. See post BigGirl?!! Wednesday I did not ask nor did she ask for underwear so the whole day she wore a diaper. Then Thursday she woke up and first thing asked for underwear. So I gave her a pair. With the understanding of one pair a day. We went out of the house that morning and I was nervous. She insisted on no diaper. So I grabbed a bag with a change of clothes and we went out the door. She stayed dry the whole time out. WooHoo. Then later had an accident and went back to a diaper. No fuss. Friday, same deal, one pair of underwear. This time I went out with my mom and half way to our destination realized I forgot the bag. Doh. We were out for 2 hours and we visited three different bathrooms; thankfully we arrived back home DRY. WooHoo. Yesterday she went 11 hours before she had an accident. I think she truly did not realize her warning sign for #2. Doh. We talked about it. She seemed to understand. Back to a diaper for the rest of the day. Today is a new day. She is wearing the underwear. We shall see how long she makes it today.
The thing I love is she is doing it on her own. As long as she is interested and wants to do it. We will. I do ask every so often when she is wearing her underwear if she needs to go. But she is not on a schedule for going to sit on it. Also last night wearing her diaper she took it off twice to go use the bathroom. Pretty cool. If she continues her interest for a couple more days I will take a more incentive approach. Stickers and such. So time will tell.

Past Your Past
Tonight was good. I shared my testimony with an amazing group of people at our church. After I shared there was a small group meeting time to share struggles and "ups." It was incredible being in that room and hearing the things people shared. Good stuff.
On the drive home I was reminded of a very clear moment in my healing process. I was a courier and spent many hours of my day inside a car transporting stuff from point A to point B. Needless to say I listened to the radio A LOT! At that time in my life I was listening to quite a bit of Family Life Radio. There were many days that ministered to me and I felt the exact words and songs were programmed JUST FOR ME. But there was one day that sticks out crystal clear.
The song that played was Past Your Past by Kirk Talley
A couple of the lines are as follow.
You can get past your past you can walk away from painful memories. Past your past you don't have to be alone. You can stand on the Word of God your yesterdays can be gone He will see you past your past and then you can go on.
That's from memory! I just found it and it played the chorus and that is it. Click that link and go listen to it. The whole song is incredible. I remember weeping. For there were parts of my past that I need to get past. People I needed to forgive. Things I blamed. I was still wounded. And this song really ministered to me. And it showed me a way to get through.
Healing comes in many ways and God uses some incredible things to guide us, teach us, minister to us in brokenness. And on that night it was a song on the radio. And it changed my life.
Beloved God is big enough to see you through whatever it is your facing. Be it present or past. He can heal you in your innermost being. I know...I've lived it. And today I am past my past. Halleluia!

Deal or No Deal
My dear son came to me with an offering of 17 cents. His little hand holding it up for me to see. "I will give this to you if you will let me stay up." Nice offer but getting out of a nap will cost more than that. I cherish this time. I should have emphased that more. I CHERISH NAP TIME.
DS "What will it cost me?"
ME "Your whole piggy bank!"
DS "My whole piggy bank?"
ME "Yes"
He scampered off to think it over. A couple minutes later he handed it over.
ME "Do you really want to give mommy all the money from your piggy bank?"
DS "All but a penny"
Then he shook out the contents. A mound of riches.
DS "Maybe I will keep the quarters"
ME "All the money or back to bed"
DS "OK all but a penny"
ME "Deal"
DS "I can stay up?
ME "Yes"
I have not counted but it looks like I made off with somewhere between 5 and 10 dollars.
And I could have buckled for 17 cents.

Poem by Langston Hughes
This poem by Langston Hughes is one that has stuck with me over the years. It was a school assignment in my ninth grade English class. We had to memorize the piece. As I was trying to nap today parts of it kept turning around and around in my head. So after a quick google it was found. Enjoy.
Mother to Son
Well, son, I'll tell you:
Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.
It's had tacks in it,And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor --
Bare.
But all the timeI'se been a-climbin' on,
And reachin' landin's,And turnin' corners,
And sometimes goin' in the dark
Where there ain't been no light.
So boy, don't you turn back.
Don't you set down on the steps'
Cause you finds it's kinder hard.
Don't you fall now --
For I'se still goin', honey,
I'se still climbin',
And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.

Big Girl!???
DD woke up this morning...took off her diaper AND...
decieded on her own to use the potty. She then proceeded to want underwear. So far she is still dry. She just told me "I am doin a great job!"
Here's hoping. Self-directed...it could work out today or be another 6 months. Time will tell. In the meantime I am excited for her. She IS doing a great job!
Update: It is almost 2pm and she is STILL DRY. so 5 hours in and woohoo.

Age of Testing
I haven't read many parenting books on the subject but I have been reading a dog book. I am beginning to think there are ages of testing. At least there are in dogs. Where they test limits. I think we have arrived at a new age in my son. While pleasent and cute...most of the time...he has started a new delayed reaction. Inwardly questioning "does mom mean what she says?" The answer to that question is Yes...most of the time. I consciencely think about what I say to my kids knowing that I will need to follow through. Yet there are times when I am occupied (be it the phone or computer) that they sneak things by me.
The last week I have been aware of this simmering defiance. Last night I had to take a stand. Rudeness and disrespect had reared there ugly heads. After a request to straighten up. He did. For about two minutes. Then he hit his sister. My follow through was to go to bed early. To which he cried and screamed and pleaded. He even pulled out the sympathy card of "I only want to spend time with you." (SIGH) Then all was silent. Which we all know can mean one of two things. 1. He fell asleep 2. He is brewing some trouble. My motherly instinct said to check it out. As I approached his door he was trying to walk out. Then he laid it on thick. The I love you's, I want to be with you, I will be good, please let me stay up. Tell me you have been here people. With a breif hug I told him I loved him too. Then I followed through. He cried some more. But then he came to a point where I think he realized that I did mean it. Because I did.
This morning we cuddled on the couch. Today is going to be better.

Who can you talk to?
I am thinking this morning about some dear friends. On Saturday I spent the day with one. All day. It was marvelous. We had a long drive to get to our destination so the whole way there we talked. I don't know about you but it seems to me different friends meet different needs within me. Some I can talk deeply with; about anything. It is not surface but truly deep and thought provoking. It was this way on Saturday. I love my time with Mindy for this reason. I feel very fulfilled at the end of the day. Like I have really engaged in doing life together. The great thing is; is that we do life differently. We are at different stages in many things. Yet spiritually it seems that God is doing a very similar work. He is showing us the same truth at the same time in different ways. I love that about God.
Thanks Mindy for a wonderful day. I love ya!

Quote to Ponder
Sidney J. Harris
"Regret for the things we did can be tempered by time; it is regret for the things we did not do that is inconsolable."

Can Anyone Help?
The situation is this: Mom ask one child to do a specific thing. The other child outruns to do it first.
For example:
DD can you please get the dishes? DS hears and says "I'll get them!" They both run to do it first. Cries and screams. Job gets done but with much fussing.
I like that they want to help. I want to teach them to be responsible. I want them to contribute to our home. I do not like the jelousy and competetion. It is a heart issue.
I do try to mix up my request evenly between them. Even so they choose to fight it out.
So can anyone help?

The Battle
For the last week God has been showing me glimspes of the spiritual battle that goes on daily in and around our lives. I have known this battle to be true. I have experienced things in the last 11 years that have opened my eyes to this spiritual battle that wages.
Sunday the message at church was about Deception. How satan lies to us and deceives us. After the message my sisters and I headed out to go to the funeral of a family member. He had commited suicide the week before. The funeral was emotional especially watching the widow and her children say good-bye. It was a beautiful service as I mentioned before. I see clearly the battle that occured in his life. The speaking of truth; the speaking of lies and how he listened to the lie that life was not worth living.
This week satan tried to speak lies to me as well. Not about life. But about my worth. You see the date had been set for me to share my testimony with about 100 women. See Awaiting Release for more on that. That date was this week. With the day approaching satan tried to discourage, annoy, place fear, steal joy and minimize me as a person. Sometimes it is crystal clear that it is him coming to steal, kill and destroy. Other times it creeps in. None the less he tried and tried to lessen God and his work in my life. The battle is real.
I am thankful I didn't go through this process alone. My girlfriend was prompted by the Holy Spirit to share her testimony the night before I was to share mine. Together we wrestled it out. God spoke truth into us and firmly established that yes this was his will and yes he was with us and yes his Holy Spirit would guide us; we were not alone.
Good solid biblical teaching helped affirm this to be true. The scripture speaks it. The battle wages. Yet did you know that there are armies of angels battling for us. God asks us to clothe ourselves with the full armor of God. Helmet of salvation, belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, sword of the spirit, SHEILD OF FAITH and feet clod with the good news of Christ. That part the sheild of faith came to mean more to me this week. It is our faith that covers us in battle. The sheild is used to extinguish flaming arrows of the evil one. You see the evil one is on attack. He is trying to shoot us with flaming arrows that will destroy. We need to stand up and stand with faith. That God is who he says he is, that he can do what he says he can do. To believe God.
I believe God has done an incredible work in my life. I also believe God asks me to share that with others. I believe he takes the good, the bad and the ugly of my life and can use it for his glory. And I believe that satan does not want that to happen. For when we share our lives, others are encouraged. The Spirit of God moves and lives are changed.
Dear friends, do not be ignorant of the spiritual battle that is going on in your midst. And stand firm in faith. Fighting the good fight of the faith.
Ephesians 6
10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

Refreshing
The above word would describe my time with a dear lady this afternoon. I say dear lady but she is quickly becoming a dear friend. A few days ago God laid it on my heart to share my testimony with her, so I called and we set the date for today. I came to her home, we prayed and I shared. After I shared we talked for a bit about life, her experience and how God uses things for his glory. For example just a week ago she was in the hospital extremely ill. She has brain cancer and damage to her liver. Doctors didn't know she would make it as her white blood count was ZERO. Her prayer warriors rallied around her and prayed. Overnight....let me repeat that overnight her numbers jumped to 2.5 and she was released from the hospital. Praise God. She went to visit a friend in hospice and while she waited to visit her friend God used her to misister to a family in the hospitality room. And minister she did. She was able pray with the family and their terminally ill adult daughter. I love it.
As we talked her son came home, she went to introduce us and it was an instant reunion. Her sons had been my buds ten years before. I had actually been in her home before and not realized it until that moment. God is cool. Then she recalled the circumstances under which I had been there. I had attended an Aquire the Fire conference with some kids from youth group. After we got back we decided we were going to get rid of junk in our lives that had no place in our homes. Such as ungodly music, books and the such...mostly music. We gathered all our "junk" together than met back at the church to destroy it. Destroy it we did. Placing it on a blue trap as to not destroy church property in the process, we stomped and smashed and if I recall correctly burned some as well. As it turns out she was there that night, supervising. I was there participating. After the destruction of the "junk" we then went to her home to talk and hang out. That was over 10 years ago.
So cool.

My DS
This afternoon in hopes of getting a nap I allowed DS to climb into bed with me. That's when he told me the following:
DS: Mom you know what I pray when I have a bad dream?
ME: "What?"
DS: "Dear God please throw away that dream"
ME: That's a good prayer.
DS: "You know what God is doing right now?"
ME: "What?"
DS: "God is walking around my head telling people he loves me!"

A True Parable of Temptation
There was once a sucker that looked sweet and tasty. A dear girl so desired this sucker that it consumed her thoughts. She took the sucker and brought it to her wise counsel. Asking the wise counsel for the sucker; to which the wise counsel said "no." The little girl was disappointed but decided that rather than eat the sucker she would JUST hold onto it. So she carried it around with her. Before long she slipped away into a private place and began to peel back the wrapper. The wise counsel knowing her delimma reminded the little girl to not eat the sucker to which she replied..."I am just holding it." Moments later the little girl could not resist any longer and slipping back the wrapper just a bit, she took a lick. A quick taste. Surely she was not eating it and this "taste" would be ok. But one taste led to another. For once the taste was in her mouth she wanted more and more. Wise counsel not wanting her to devour the sucker asked for her to hand it over. There was deep thought and sadness as she handed it over. The wise counsel placed the forbidden treat out of sight. Even after it was out of sight the sucker was still on the little girls mind. "Where is the sucker?" To which the wise counsel replied..."out of sight." Eventually she went on her way. The sucker forgotten. Except the sticky little remenants that remained on her lips.

Exhausted
Today has been emotionally draining. The funeral was today. I made it through visitation but lost it as mom and sons said their good byes just before the service. Hard stuff man. The service was beautiful! You could not have asked for a better service. The pastor talked about clouds that we need to get through. Guilt; was there something we could have said or done that would have made a difference. Confusion; why? Anger; how could he have done that. What about the rest of us, his family? Then he shared how for him the anger quickly turned from Matt to the one who comes to steal, kill and destroy. For it was his lies and deception. For in those last moments it was his lies that said "life is not worth living." The pastor had to fly in for the funeral. He shared how it was dismal and raining at the airport. It looked bleak and felt depressing. At liftoff there was several minutes of strong turbulance. Then they broke above the clouds and there was blue sky...the brightest blue. And the sun was shining. He said the brightest he had ever remembered. He reminded us the clouds are real and so is the SON. Even if we can't see him in the midst of the storm, he is there. Shining upon us. We need to work through those clouds. Go through them. The whole time having hope in Him. Our hope is IN HIM.
I am exhausted. Time for bed. Remembering he is my hope today and forever.
Addition 3/13/06: I could not find this verse last night. Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit
That was the verse the widow choose for the sermon at the service

First Ride of the Year
With our first big break in the weather, DS and I went on a bike ride. It felt good to be out and moving especially after a long week inside under isolation. I love watching him go. He seems older than his actual age. Very active is he. In moments like these I see him as a teenager. Independant, confident and heading somewhere. For now I am headed in the same direction as he is. Wherever I go, he goes. I now this won't last forever. So I enjoy today. It was a beautiful day.

Love Tank
My mother came over today. She brought with her some projects to do with the kids. A finger puppet stage for DS to color complete with small finger puppets. A memory game. Some worksheets. I headed out the door as they begun their work. I was were I needed to be, I heard what I needed to hear. When I returned I knew that my mother had given my kids and I a great gift; her time. My son and daughter were beaming. Not just sure I will humor you smiles. Ear to ear grins. I was treated to a puppet show given by DS. I was schooled at a game of memory by a 4 year old. His laughter filled the room. In giving her time this morning she filled some love tanks. Three of them.

Crankiness and Fevers
My dear sweet children have been testing my patience and my kindness. While I was away both DS and DD had the flu. DH took excellent care of them...yes he did. But he was more than willing to fly out of here Monday morning and go back to work. He was actually THANKFUL he was going to work. You see when my kids are sick, they are cranky and emotional!!! DS has a more laid back approach. He lays out on the couch and vegs. He may whine when he needs something. But for the most part he sits back and watches TV. If something is not right he cries...until resolved. That is DS. DD has a different approach. She clings. She becomes melded to you. Depending on you for every need. Physical and emotional. She whines, cries and is GRUMPY! She will look you straight in your eyes and proclaim "I am grumpy." If you move, she excpects to move with you. Sitting on your lap is THE EXPECTATION. Although the flu has passed through we still have some lingering fever. All schedules have been cleared as we get well. So far DH and I are still well. Praise God! Praying peace and health come and stays; that crakiness and fevers go far away.

This Spoke To Me
2 Corinthians 1:18-23
But as surely as God is Faithful, our message to you is not "Yes" and "No." For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by me and Silas and Timothy, was not "Yes" and "No," but in him it has always been "Yes." For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He annointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, gaurenteeing what is to come.
Stand firm, he has annointed you and His spirit is within you.
How does this verse speak to you?

Meditations
Psalm 104:34 May my meditations be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord.
What is it that we meditate? What is meditation? It is that which we mull over in our minds. That which we think about and allow to consume our minds. Are you thinking on his Word? Or the worries of this day?
Matthew 6 has some stuff to say about worry. It tells us not to worry about our life, God will take care of our needs. Don't worry about tomorrow.
So what to do? Keys to success?
Joshua 1:8 Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Be in the Word and let his Word dwell with you all day. Let it replace your worry. In doing so you will prosper and have success. Sounds like a good plan to me.

What Did This Weekend Mean To Me?
Well....some of you weren't there so I will tell you. And those of you that were there, I had much to say that wasn't said so read on.
My name is ....... and I sat at the table Kjaerlighet. (Love in Norweign) pronouced char-lee-het.
This weekend was awesome in many ways. I sat at a table with some incredible, beautiful ladies. Together we listened to talks on the Christian Faith, we sang, we laughed and we prayed. We opened our hearts. Our joys, our hurts and hang-ups. We broke down walls and let go of things that have been holding us back from a fuller relationship with Christ.
For me this weekend meant living by the spirit and following his leading. He called me for a very specific purpose for THIS weekend. There were things I needed to say, things I needed to do and looks I needed to give. Prayers prayed, hugs offered. Even dances to be danced (though my calfs are crying out to me today AHHHH) When the spirit leads we have a choice. We can obey and do what it is that he is calling us to do OR we can look away and say no Lord...not gonna do it. How blessed I have been in obedience. Sometimes we never know to whom or for what reason God calls us to do something. Yet everything that is done in his name...bears fruit! I was blessed many times over the weekend with a "thanks...that was for me" and it is nice having that affrimation. That yes it was what you were suppose to do or say. i may never know (this side of heaven) how God used me. But I know He did. It was Him working through me...for His Glory.
Laugh with those that rejoice. Weep with those that mourn.
This weekend also meant remembering. Rembering where I have been, how far I have come. You see I took my flight 11 years ago. I was a Senior in high school. I was broken, empty, alone and ashamed. That weekend 11 years ago...was my setting free. I remembered the things I nailed to the cross. The talks with Spiritual leaders. The snot that poured from my nose as I cried and cried. I remembered thinking...this is good...I need to get this junk out. I remembered the kindness of my table leader. The fellowship with those girls... the acceptance. I remembered my candle light. How my mom had come from over an hour away. This was signficant in that when I left for the weekend she was in the hospital. She had been released and she had come...just for me! God used that to show me the expectations I placed on myself and the burdens I carried from my mom being sick. I let it go. I remember at the time I was afraid she would not live to see me graduate. Let alone see me marry and have my babies. She is still alive..and well. She plays such an important role in my life and the life on my kids. Needless to say I am thankful. I also remembered the closing. The words I said. How I had followed up on those words of what I said my next steps would be. I said I was going to go home and sponser someone for the flight. I was going to take what I learned and apply. To live my life for Christ. And that is what I did. I have been challenged. Sometimes I fell short. But this faith journey over the last 11 years has been incredible. How great is our God! He has taken me from a person that didn't even love herself to one that is able to love all. He has healed me, forgiven and set me free. And so I remember and live for him.
One other thing I learned was that I am not just a mom. I left my kids at home for those three days with their daddy. It was a time to be me. Not a mom or a wife but me. That was a good thing. Sometimes I forget.
Upon returning home I have a deeper admiration for my hubby. You see while I was enjoying life, he was stuck in our home. The kids both had the flu. high fevers and other unplesantries. Whining, crying and crankiness. He prayed for our kids, he met their needs. My kids learned that their daddy could take care of them. Today they are still emotional (but hey so am I) and needy. Welcome back to the world.
There you have it. That's what I have learned.
Those of you that were on the weekend. You have your own stories. Some of you shared. Others for whatever reason did not. Feel free to comment here! Remain anonymous if you like. Come up with a code name or "whatever" but please refrain from using your last name...for your safety.
I love you all!

It's Alive!
So I took my friends advise...when in doubt throw it out. Well there was some frozen bread dough in the freezer that I wasn't sure if it was ok. I forgot it in the car for 2 days...kinda cold not sure if cold enough. So I refroze it, then got thinking I should throw it away to be safe. So I did. Into the trash. Hours later I return to the trash and OH MY GOODNESS it is alive. It is oozing up and out the trash can. I could of taken a picture but that would haven been gross. Use your imagination. But oh so funny. It's alive, maybe that is where some of this sci-fi stuff comes from. My kitchen.
Weekend Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father I pray that this weekend I will used for your glory. Be with these ladies that are coming Lord. surround them with your Holy Spirit. Show them your love. Encourage them. Break down walls; help them to let go of things in their life that are holding them back from you. I pray for healing in their lives. Lord, reveal yourself mightily this weekend. Teach them who you are. That they may not deny your goodness, your love or your Son. I pray for this team you have established for such a time as this, for this moment. Minister through them and to them. Let them be your hands and feet, let Christ be seen in each and everyone one of us there. For those giving talks boldness, honesty, clarity of speech and content. Thank you for each testimony you have given. For our lives to be used for your glory; the good and the bad bearing fruit in your name. I pray for those working behind the scenes. Give them strength and endurance. Eyes to see what needs to be done and obedience to see it through to completion. Bless them for their work O God. Father protect our families who remain at home. Send forth your angels to guide and protect. Keep them safe from all harm entended by the evil one. Let our families draw from your strength. Bless them Lord. Thank you for our leaders. Thank you for their faithfulness. Give them wisdom and understanding. Guide them by your Holy Spirit. Thank you for this weekend. Thank you for lives changed and renewed. Praise and Glory be to you alone. In Jesus Name Amen!

Organizing 101
My dear friend sent me these helpful tips on organizing. With her permission I share them with you.
Organizing 101: Simplify…Simplify…Simplify
- Prior to de-cluttering and organizing your house, begin by talking to "the author of order" – GOD. Ask for the Holy Spirit’s guidance and help. Pray that you will be able to bless your family by simplifying your life and also bless others with your excess (i.e. giving to others).
- Adopt the philosophy that "less really is better". The less you have the less you have to maintain, clean, organize, and put back into its place later.
- Determine what you will keep, give away or throw away! If you haven’t used something in 6 months, you probably don’t need it any longer and can then determine if it is trash or treasure for someone else. If you are struggling with getting rid of something, use the value approach. Evaluate the item based on the dollar value and assess what it would cost to buy in the event that later you determined that you needed it. If the value is nominal and could be easily replaced, simply get rid of it and don’t look back. Chances are…you will never miss it.
- Remember that EVERYTHING has its own place in the house. This will help you big time in the future. No more searching and searching for anything – a huge time saver. Also, by getting the entire household involved, everyone can find and replace things themselves!!
- When you start a project (or a room to organize), pull everything off the shelves and put into the middle of the floor. Not only does this give you perspective on what you have and the excess, you will also have a chance to clean in spots you never knew existed.
- Remember that it is OK (and actually better) to NOT use all your shelves, storage bins and closets. Don’t justify keeping something just because there is "space". Even though it is in a box, it could still be clutter and something unnecessary to keep.
- Once a room is completed and organized discipline yourself to keep things in their place. This may be some hard work initially, but if you continue to do it, it will become a habit. You will become very efficient in picking up your house in the future.
- Celebrate the "little" victories along the way. Each completed room is one room closer to an organized home. Take before and after pictures so you can share your "recovery" someday with someone who may be in the exact shoes (or house) you are in right now.
- Remember "with God all things are possible!"
